Welcome back to What’s For Tea 🙂 Tonight for tea For tea tonight we are having an absolute Scottish Classic which is Stovies! If you’ve never heard of Stovies before, it’s a Scottish favourite combining good old meat, potatoes and other vegetables.

Recipes and ingredients vary widely, and traditionally leftovers would have been used for this dish and will ALWAYS contain potatoes and onions! And also a meat element like sausages, stewed beef, corned beef, minced beef, mutton, left over roast beef…any meat you have really!

Traditional Scottish Stovies are absolutely delicious! This really is Comfort food at it’s best. It’s a simple one-pot dish, made this time in the slow cooker…or crock pot 🙂 Perfect served with traditional Scottish oatcakes.

What I used (serves 4-5) I used a 3.5 litre Crockpot

2 lbs (around 1 kg) Potatoes – peeled, washed and cut into quarters or even thickly sliced.
1 lb (450g) Beef steak mince
1/2 lb (225g) Braising steak – cubed
Half a can (170g/6oz) Corned beef – cut into large cubes
1 pint/560ml Beef stock
2 Medium carrots – peeled & diced
1 Medium onion- peeled & thinly sliced
1/2 of a swede – peeled & diced
Salt & pepper to taste
A couple of tablespoons of seasoned flour
A little oil for frying

***Serve with oatcakes or crusty bread***
